Strategy partners

A strategy partner is someone, usually an IB, who promotes a manager’s strategy in return for a share of the manager’s fees. The investor doesn’t pay anything extra: the partner’s share comes out of the manager’s fee.

This page has two halves. Managers start with Inviting a partner. If you’ve received an invitation, skip to Accepting an invitation.

Inviting a partner

  1. Open your strategy from Invest → My strategies and go to the Partners tab.
  2. Choose Add partner.
  3. Enter the partner’s email address. Use the one they sign in to Portal with, because invitations are matched to accounts by email.
  4. Set their share of each fee: performance, volume and subscription. Each share is a percentage of your fee, not an extra charge to the investor.
  5. Send the invitation.

Open My strategies

Nothing takes effect until the partner accepts. Portal doesn’t tell you whether the address you typed belongs to an XBTFX account, so if they say nothing arrived, check the address with them first.

A partner earns from investors in your strategy who are their clients, meaning listed under them in the partner’s Earn section. The shares apply to investments made after the partner accepts. Investors who were already in your strategy are not affected.

You can edit a partner’s share or remove them from the same tab.

Accepting an invitation

You’ll get an email from XBTFX saying a manager has invited you to partner on their strategy.

  1. Select the link in the email. It opens Invest → Partnerships in Portal.
  2. Sign in with the same email address the invitation was sent to. If you sign in with a different account, the invitation won’t be there.
  3. Under You’ve been invited you’ll see the strategy and your share of its performance, volume and subscription fees.
  4. Choose Accept, or Decline if you don’t want it.

Open Partnerships

Invitations expire after 30 days. If yours has expired, ask the manager to send a new one.

Can’t find the invitation?

It shows in several places, so you don’t need the email to get to it:

  • Invest → Partnerships
  • at the top of My investments and My strategies, while it’s pending
  • Earn → Strategy partnerships, which opens the same page

If it isn’t in any of them, you’re most likely signed in with a different email address from the one the manager used. Sign in with that address, or ask the manager to invite the address you use.

”Can no longer fit that share”

If accepting gives you a message that the strategy can no longer fit that share, the invitation can’t be accepted as it stands. Ask the manager to send you a new one.

How a partner earns

You earn your share of the manager’s fees from investors in the strategy who are your clients, meaning they’re listed under you in the Earn section. That includes clients you had before you became a partner. Your share applies to investments made after you accept.

To bring in new investors, share the strategy’s page address with your IB tracking ID added to it:

Anyone who signs up through that link becomes your client. Your tracking ID is on the IB tracking links page under Earn.
