Platforms
XBTFX runs two trading platforms: Mega1 and MetaTrader 5. Both carry the same instruments and both offer Pro and Standard accounts.
A trading account belongs to one platform, chosen when you open it. Nothing moves an account from one platform to the other afterwards, so if you want both, open one of each. There is no limit on how many you hold, and funds move between them with a transfer.
How they differ
| Mega1 | MetaTrader 5 | |
|---|---|---|
| Access | Browser, from the client portal | Download, or browser |
| Install | None | Windows, macOS, Android, iOS apps |
| Signing in | Your portal login | Login number, password and server |
| Account ID | Begins MEGA- | A number, emailed with the password |
| Automation | Mega1 native API | Expert Advisors, plus the XBTFX Trading API |
| Devices | Any supported browser | Desktop, mobile and web, at the same time |
Neither is the beginner option. Mega1 removes the install and the separate password, MetaTrader 5 brings a large ecosystem of indicators and Expert Advisors that has been around for years. Which one suits you depends on whether you want to run other people’s tools inside the terminal.
In this section
- Mega1: opening the terminal, what is in it, and the native API.
- MetaTrader 5: downloads for each device, the server name, and signing in.
Opening an account on either
Both are created the same way, on the Accounts page in the portal. See Open a Trading Account for the form and what comes back when you submit it.
Demo accounts exist on both platforms, with virtual funds and no deposit, so either platform can be tried before you fund anything.
